Library Staff (Part-Time) Job Posting

The City of Crockett is accepting applications for the position of part-time library staff.

Job Summary: This position performs a wide variety of general library work to assist library patrons with various library resources, including the library’s computers, and to help staff maintain the library. The focus of this position’s duties involves entering data in the library’s computer system and attending the circulation desk, checking books in and out, collecting fines. Work requires extensive interaction with the public, and the ability to maintain a professional, courteous demeanor while providing excellent customer service. Work also requires the ability to shelve library materials.

Work is performed under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a library environment and involves sitting for extended periods of time while entering data and standing for extended periods of time while attending the circulation desk. Work involves extensive communication with the general public. Duties require occasional periods of climbing or balancing, pulling/pushing items, lifting/carrying items, keyboarding, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. One year of work experience involving extensive customer service. Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and computer systems is required and may have been obtained through work experience, voluntary experience, or as a student.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in a library setting, either as a volunteer or employee.

FLSA Status and Salary: This is an FLSA non-exempt hourly position. Salary is $9/hour.

Applications may be picked up from and turned in at the Crockett City Hall receptionist area 200 N. 5th Street, Crockett, Texas or at the Crockett Public Library’s circulation desk at 709 E. Houston Street, Crockett, Texas.
